Quietly seeing in the New Year   FRESCOBALDI, MACHAUT, KERSCHBAUMER et.al.

As the year draws to a close, three musicians take us on a journey through time. The focus is on three instruments from different centuries – played solo, in a duo and in a trio. The oldest is the organetto, one of the most expressive keyboard instruments ever. It serves both as an accompaniment for vocals and as a virtuoso solo instrument, thus forming a bridge between the vocal music of the Middle Ages and the instrumental repertoire of the Renaissance. The cello provides a link to the Baroque, followed by the accordion, which emerged in the 19th century.

The idea is to raise the old and the new to a common level. This is achieved by reshaping familiar sound worlds and considering them from a new perspective. Experiences drawn from contemporary compositions meet works of early music.

The programme includes the Austrian premiere of a work by Hannes Kerschbaumer, compositions by Daniela Fantechi, and works by Machaut and his contemporaries.
