The art song and the ballad – the most intense combination of poetry and music – are the focus of Konstantin Krimmel and Ammiel Bushakevit. The programme centres on Robert Schumann’s Liederkreis, Op. 24 based on poems from Heinrich Heine’s Buch der Lieder. Heine’s poetry unleashed an unprecedented creative drive in Schumann. Op. 24 is tender, poignant and turbulent. With Schubert, Wolf and Loewe, the concert reveals the sheer richness of the genre. The works of Franz Schubert, the quintessential composer of art songs, range from deep emotion to existential turmoil and sombre visions. Hugo Wolf takes art song to its limits; Begegnung and Der Feuerreiter combine lightness with extreme drama. Carl Loewe, finally, gives the ballad its distinctive character. Among other things, he makes Geisterleben a deeply moving experience.

After a long break, Konstantin Krimmel and Ammiel Bushakevitz – two equals in dialogue – are once again joining us at Musik Plus. Krimmel, who has received a number of awards, including an Opus Klassik music award as Singer of the Year, moves and captivates his audience with his clarity of voice and profound interpretation of the lyrics, while Bushakevitz, with his creative power, is the perfect partner and far more than just the accompaniment.
