A quiet celebration of New Year’s Eve Old and New
Anna Stegmann – Recorders
Jorge Jiménez – Violin
We bid farewell to the old year and look forward with hope to the new with music from the Middle Ages to the 21st century performed by Anna Stegmann (recorders) and Jorge Jiménez (violin).
They focus on the elements, the zodiac and their musical representation. The spectrum ranges from anonymous works (12th century), Jacopo de Bologna and J.S. Bach, to Béla Bartók and Karlheinz Stockhausen, among others. Stockhausen’s Tierkreis for 12 music boxes forms the central theme. He began to busy himself with the 12 human characters of the zodiac […]. When creating each melody, I thought of the characters of children, friends and acquaintances who were born under the various star signs. The melodies of the original music boxes, which Stockhausen had made for the composition, are combined and merge with other works such as the Austrian premiere of Wilma Pistorius’ musical interpretation of the 13th sign of the zodiac, Ophiuchus.
