In our Zukunft.Musik series we this year present the Trio Artio, which was founded in 2017. The violinist Judith Fliedl (AT), the cellist Christine Roider (DE) and the Innsbruck pianist Johanna Estermann are tutored at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna by Stefan Mendl (Wiener Klaviertrio) and Johannes Meissl (Artis Quartet). In addition to Hall, the Trio Artio will also be making its debut at the Wiener Musikverein in 2019. Our concert has a focus on piano trios by those Tyrolean composers who have been involved with Galerie St. Barbara from the beginning: Haimo Wisser and Werner Pirchner as jazz musicians with their owns works and also as friends. Pirchner’s Film Untergang des Alpenlandes, for example, was first shown in the unfinished structure of the Holiday Inn in Innsbruck. For Johannes Maria Staud the composition of the Trio was a challenging journey… exploring a spectrum between tenderly internalised and explosively unleashed, and wildly forward thrusting and smoothly pulsating moments.
